055 FXUS62 KFFC 311852 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 252 PM EDT Sun May 31 2026 ...Afternoon Area Forecast Discussion... .KEY MESSAGES... - The chance for showers and thunderstorms remain the forecast through Tuesday with drier weather slated for the remainder of the the week. - Locally heavy rainfall and a potential for flash flooding remains the primary concern but a low-end chance for strong gusty winds across North GA is a possibility on Monday. && .SHORT TERM... (This afternoon through Monday) Issued at 249 PM EDT Sun May 31 2026 Current radar loop shows showers and isolated thunderstorms firing along the nearly stationary boundary laying across central GA. These storms are very efficient rain makes with Precipitable water values in the 2" to 2.5" range this afternoon. Right now the basins are handling the rain rates and we are not seeing any flooding as of yet but this is definitely going to be a big concern going into the evening hours.or most of central and south GA has been issued for this very reason. North GA is still under the influence of the Wedge/Ridge centered over the Mid-Atlantic states nosing down the eastern seaboard and into North GA. This wedge is keeping most easterly flow over the state with low clouds and steady east winds. By Monday the wedge will loose its grip on North GA as the high pressure ridge gets pushed off shore by an incoming frontal boundary from the NW This will turn winds more northwesterly and scatter the low ceilings out through mid morning/early afternoon. Currently there is a day 2 Marginal Risk for severe storms from the SPC due to a few waves pushing SE into the area in the NWLY flow. there does remain a low chance that a cluster of storms could dive into NW GA Monday afternoon and evening that could lead to a low end damaging wind concern especially in areas that have looser soils due to the rainfall this past week. Other parts of the area may see isolated storms throughout the afternoon and evening but overall a drier pattern shift is beginning to take place as we move into the extended periods. Low temps will mainly be in the 60s Tonight and Monday night with highs in the 80s Monday. && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday morning through next Saturday) Issued at 249 PM EDT Sun May 31 2026 At the start of the long term period (Tuesday), another back door front will push into the area from the north eventually followed by an upper trough. Exactly where and how far south the frontal boundary ends up is still in question as well as interactions with a departing low off the Atlantic. The location of the front will ultimately determine the places that are more likely to see showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday. Latest ensembles continue to reflect these placement uncertainties, thus elected to lower rain chances slightly on Tuesday. The highest chances are for portions of south- central Georgia and at the higher elevations. Upper ridging draped SW/NE up the MS Valley Region and surface high pressure extending southward from the Great Lakes to the Southeast looks to remain in place from Wednesday through at least the end of the week. This will promote drier and more comfortable temperatures (at least for Wednesday/Thursday) to start off the month of June. Temperatures are forecast to be in the 70s areawide with dewpoints in the 50s (*chefs kiss*) on Wednesday. Thursday morning lows are forecast to be in the 50s areawide. As upper ridging and the surface high slides eastward through the week, expect temperatures to gradually trend upward each day. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1240 PM EDT Sun May 31 2026 Wedge keeping easterly winds and low clouds across the area this afternoon. This wedge is expected to continue through midnight then loosen its grip on NE GA through Mon morning. Will still see MVFR to IFR ceilings over night but ceilings will lift into the VFR range by late morning.Winds are out of the East and will stay there through Tonight. Winds will turn to the NW by daybreak as the wedge moves out. Wind speeds in the 8-12kt range with gust to 20kt through sunset. Wind speeds diminish to 5kt or less over night picking back up into the 8-12kt range Mon. //ATL Confidence...18Z Update... Confidence high on all elements. 01 && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
