...Afternoon Area Forecast Discussion...

.KEY MESSAGES...

  - Drier conditions are expected today and tomorrow, giving us a
    break from the heat.

  - Thunderstorm chances return on Saturday morning and into the
    afternoon. A few storms could be strong to severe during the
    afternoon.

  - Afternoon storm chances will continue through the weekend and
    into next week.

.SHORT TERM...

Satellite shows mostly clear skies over the area with scattered cu
field mostly over the metro Atlanta area. Dry air continues to
funnel into the area which is leading to overall pleasant
conditions across the area. With the drier air being funneled in,
smoke is also pushing into the area which has led to hazy skies
in the area as well as the more orange sunsets you`ve seen. Likely
will not see improvement in this until Saturday. Temperatures
overnight into Friday morning will be the lowest we`ve seen in a
while with temps in the mid 60s to low 70s from north to south
with upper 50s possible in the higher elevations of northeast
Georgia. High temps tomorrow will be similar to today topping out
in the upper 80s to low 90s. What leads to the pleasant conditions
will be the dewpoints which will continue to be below the upper
60s for much of the area through Friday.

(Saturday morning through next Wednesday)

These lovely dry conditions are coming to an end friday night as the
next frontal system pushes into the state just before daybreak Sat.
Fri morning a closed low center begins to deepen over KS as it
pushes into MO Fri afternoon/evening. Its trailing cold front pushes
through the Mid/Southern MS river valley Fri night and begins
knocking on NW GA`s doorstep just before day break Sat. By Sat
morning The main low pressure center moves NE into the central Great
lake states and into the Mid Atlantic/New England states Sun/Mon.
The frontal boundary on the other hand stalls across E/SE GA and the
Carolinas as a developing Bermuda ridge blocks it from moving off
shore. With GA on the periferia of this Ridge it will keep us in
moist SWLY flow through day 7. This will keep precipitation chances
elevated with a diurnally driven trend each day. With showers and
thunderstorms expected each day, highs temps will only get up into
the 80s to near 90 Sun through Wed.

Mostly clear skies with a cu field over metro ATL ~4kft. Winds
mainly out of the W/NW through the period but overnight becoming
VRB at less than 3-4kt. Cu field forms again tomorrow afternoon
~4-6kft.
