914 FXUS62 KFFC 120720 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 320 AM EDT Wed Aug 12 2026 ...Morning Area Forecast Discussion... .KEY MESSAGES... - Isolated damaging wind threat is possible Wednesday as NW flow keeps waves moving into the area. - Scattered thunderstorms will be possible each day this week posing a threat for gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall. - Impactful heat is becoming increasingly likely as heat indices return to the mid 90s to low 100s by the middle of the week. && .SHORT TERM... (Today through Thursday) Issued at 306 AM EDT Wed Aug 12 2026 Line of showers and embedded thunderstorms continue across northern Georgia. As they push south, will continue to see a weakening trend before dissipating in the next couple of hours. The northwest flow pattern continues into the day today where we are likely to see isolated to scattered thunderstorms pop up across north and central Georgia again. What we`ll be keeping an eye on will be any potential MCS that is able to push into north Georgia tomorrow. CAMs continue to be a bit all over the place when it comes to timing but definitely eyeing tomorrow evening into the overnight as the best possible timing as a line moves in from the north. Main threats will continue to be strong to locally damaging wind gusts (40-60mph), frequent rainfall, and locally heavy rainfall that could lead to flooding concerns. When it comes to temperatures the next two days, will see highs get into the low to mid 90s across the area. Although dewpoints were lowered a tad to reflect the mixing that is likely to occur, heat index values still top out close to 105 in some areas of central Georgia. && .LONG TERM... (Thursday night through Tuesday) Issued at 306 AM EDT Wed Aug 12 2026 The long-term outlook consists of a strengthening ridge that will build through the weekend. Models depict an incremental decrease in precipitation by the time we reach the weekend; however, they tend to undersell the effects of a persistent NW flow and associated MCS developments that are common in these environments. That being the case, there is at least a chance of seeing a more active diurnal convective pattern even as temperatures climb in response to the building ridge. One possible silver lining is that, if convection is more active than expected, we will likely see slightly lower afternoon temperatures through the weekend. Regardless, the risk of excessive heat will ramp up each day, with some areas reaching the mid-to-upper 90s by Friday. Most of the CWA can expect apparent temperatures in the triple digits, with the central and eastern portions of the forecast area reaching Heat Advisory criteria. We will need to keep an eye on temperatures over the period, and the heat should be a consideration when making plans for outdoor activities. && .AVIATION...
