.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Friday)
Issued at 450 AM EDT Thu Jul 30 2026
An overall less active pattern is expected through the short term.
For the afternoon, less oppressive temperatures are expected for
most of the CWA. Highs in the upper 80s and low 90s but with
dewpoints in the 60s making it feel a lot more comfortable than what
we`ve seen over the past few days.
This trend will continue as we go into the second half of the work
week, with pleasant temperatures and minimal chances of afternoon
thunderstorms over the next 36 hours. Storms return to the forecast
on Saturday morning as another front moves in from the west.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday night through Wednesday)
Issued at 450 AM EDT Thu Jul 30 2026
The long-term forecast period will be characterized primarily by a
sharp increase in overall rain chances as well as a general decrease
in afternoon high temperatures amid more widespread cloud cover and
convection. An upper trough will dig into the eastern CONUS by
Saturday, sending a surface low into the Ohio Valley and its
attendant frontal boundary into the forecast area. This will send
deep tropical moisture streaming quickly back northward into the
area after the brief reprieve we will have experienced late this
week. With PWATs forecast to surge back into the 2 - 2.25" range by
Saturday, widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected. While
the severe threat currently looks rather limited, locally heavy
rainfall will be a concern given the environment, and as such WPC
already has a "Marginal" Excessive Rainfall out for our area on
Saturday.
The front is progged to make gradual progress into the area on
Sunday, keeping PoPs quite high in advance. Again, locally heavy
rainfall will remain the primary concern. Additionally, a weak upper
low looks develop within the trough axis that will bisect the
forecast area by late weekend into early next week. As such, while
the surface front will gradually push eastward and wash out, the
presence of the weak meandering upper low should provide sufficient
lift for continued scattered diurnally-enhanced convection through
early next week before upper riding looks to make a gradual return
thereafter.
As mentioned above, more widespread cloud cover/rainfall will keep
high temperatures more tempered in the 80s to perhaps low 90s,
though overnight lows will creep back into the 70s.
