    returning this weekend.

.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Tuesday)
Issued at 235 PM EDT Mon Sep 14 2026

While a slight airmass change is underway, the theme through the
short term will continue to be above-normal temperatures and mainly
dry conditions. The slight change alluded to above is weak CAD at
the surface that is building in from the east as the parent high
slides into New England. The main sensible impact through Tuesday
will be an increase in easterly breezes, but temperatures will
respond only very marginally as a stout midlevel ridge will remain
dominant overhead. Thus, highs on Tuesday will remain in the 90s for
the majority of the area, though likely a few degrees cooler than
today`s mid 90s. Morning lows may be a bit more noticeably cooler by
Wednesday morning with a few more 60s replacing the 70s that have
been commonplace for quite some time.

As far as rain chances are concerned, they are largely negligible
through midweek. The slight exception may be an isolated shower or
thunderstorm Tuesday afternoon in far southeastern areas within the
easterly flow, but these would be few and far between.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday morning through next Sunday)
Issued at 235 PM EDT Mon Sep 14 2026

The extended period begins Wed with an upper ridge centered over the
TN/North GA/Western NC, along with a surface ridge/wedge nosing down
the eastern seaboard from the New England states. By Wed morning the
wedge will be firmly entrenched into North and Central GA with East
to SE winds in the 8-12mph range. By Wed the drier airmass will be
filtering into east central GA with dewpoints expected in the upper
50s and lower 60s. This drier airmass continues into Thu and moves
northward bringing those lower 60s dewpoints in across all of north
and central GA. High temps stay in the upper 80s to lower 90s
through the end of the week but with the drier air moving in Heat
Index values will drop from the upper 90s to lower 100s Tue to the
lower 90s Wed to Fri.

Models show moisture beginning to return Fri evening into Sat as the
ridge finally begins to break down. The continued east to
southeasterly flow brings atlantic moisture in across the state as
we get into the weekend. Right now just going with a 20% to 30%
chance of showers and thunderstorms Sat and Sun.
