.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Tuesday)
Issued at 250 PM EDT Mon Oct 12 2026

Pleasant but warm weather is on tap for most of this week across
North and Central Georgia as a mid-level ridge and surface high
pressure build over the Southeast US. Today will be a bit of a
transition day as the high starts to build in, with enough of a
pressure gradient to create breezy northwest winds gusting to
around 20-25 mph through early evening. High temperatures will
climb to the low to mid 80s under skies.

As the pressure gradient weakens overnight winds will become
nearly calm, allowing for excellent radiational cooling with
temperatures falling to the upper 50s for most. The warming trend
continues tomorrow, with highs climbing into the mid to upper 80s
across much of the area. These temps are around 10-15 degrees
above normal, and we could even see Atlanta`s daily high
temperature record of 86 be met or broken.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday morning through next Sunday)
Issued at 250 PM EDT Mon Oct 12 2026

Very little change in the long term forecast for this afternoon.
Ridge continues to build in overhead through the week bringing
mostly clear skies and some very warm temps to north and central
Georgia. Highs are still forecast to be 10-20 degrees above
average for highs and lows through Friday. Current forecast will
definitely be close to record highs at a some of the climate
sites, depending on the day and the site, and we very well could
break some. This means highs in the mid to upper 80s and even a
few 90s. Overnight lows will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s.
This is above average, but not close to record high minimums which
are generally in the 70s (think high dewpoint days/tropical
events in October). Air will be humid for October with dewpoints
in the mid to upper 60s through Friday.

Low over the 4 corners region is still progged to eject into the
Great Plains on Thursday and merge with trough digging into the
same area. Large trough spreads over the eastern CONUS driving
early season cold air down from the Arctic. Timing remains a
little uncertain, but best current timing pushes the cold front in
rapidly overnight Friday into Saturday morning. Much cooler air
comes in behind with highs on Saturday in the 60s and 70s. Sunday
will likely be the coolest night of the Fall so far, with lows in
the 40s and maybe a few 30s. 10th percentile NBM is showing things
being right at the verge for frost advisory in parts of NE GA, so
that will bear some watching.
