.SYNOPSIS...An area of high pressure will continue to bring hot
and dry conditions across the State. A weak short-wave will
elevate winds Monday and Tuesday, which could result in localized
fire weather concerns. Another strong ridge will set in by mid-
week.

.DISCUSSION...The toasty temperatures will stick around through
much of the forecast period, as a strong ridge continues to
dominate across the Southwest. Although hot temperatures are
forecast across the state, the primary location for concern is
below 4000` in the Grand Canyon. With temperatures forecast to
reach 110-112 degrees at Phantom Ranch, an Extreme Heat Warning
remains in effect through Monday evening. Even if you`re not
hiking into the Canyon, be sure to avoid strenuous activity during
the hottest part of the day and drink lots of water!

A minor wave of relief from the heat is expected on Tuesday, as a
weak short-wave brushes across the state. This disturbance does
not have any moisture associated with it, so elevated southwest
winds and slightly cooler daytime highs are the main impacts we`ll
see. Southwest winds should pick up some ahead of the on-set of
this system, so we could see localized near-critical fire weather
conditions on both Monday and Tuesday.

Hot temperatures will make a quick comeback as another strong
ridge looks to build across the Southwest following the previously
mentioned short-wave. Once again, dangerously hot daytime highs
will be anticipated across our CWA, but we`ll likely need another
Extreme Heat Warning for the lower elevations of the Grand Canyon
Wednesday and Thursday. Heat is the leading cause of weather-
related fatalities, so be sure to take necessary precautions
before venturing outside during these extremely hot days.

.AVIATION...Sunday 15/06Z through Monday 16/06Z...Look for VFR
conditions. Light and variable winds overnight, becoming
southwest at 10-15 kts gusting to 20-25 kts after 18Z.

OUTLOOK...Monday 16/06Z through Wednesday 18/06Z...VFR conditions
are forecast. Expect southwest winds at 10-20 kts with gusts to
30 kts on Monday and Tuesday. Overnight winds generally light less
than 15 kts.

.FIRE WEATHER...Sunday and Monday...Hot and dry conditions forecast
to continue. Look for southwest winds 5-15 mph with gusts 20-25 mph
on Sunday, slightly increasing on Monday to 10-20 mph with gusts up
to 30 mph. Localized near-critical fire weather conditions
possible on Monday.

Tuesday through Thursday...Above normal temperatures and minimum RH
values below 15% forecast to continue through the week. Look for
westerly winds 10-20 mph on Tuesday, light and variable winds on
Wednesday, and south-southwest winds 10-20 mph on Thursday. Near
critical to critical fire weather concerns on Tuesday across the
Little Colorado River Valley.
