Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Flagstaff AZ
245 AM MST Fri Oct 2 2026

.SYNOPSIS...Drier and warmer conditions will move in through the
end of the week and weekend as high pressure looks to dominate
the region through the next week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...High pressure in the mid to upper levels will be the
main story over the coming week. As a result, look for mainly
clear skies, high temperatures 5-10 degrees above normal and
generally light daytime winds from the northeast to southeast at
5-15 mph locally gusting to 20 mph. Only a few deviations from
the above scenario. The first, during the overnight periods with
clear skies and a dry air mass in place, strong radiational
cooling will produce drainage flow south of the Mogollon Rim. As a
result, look for locally gusty nighttime winds of 10-25 mph for
locations such as Sedona, Black Canyon City, Cordes Junction and
Crown King. Second, indications are that some moisture will try to
sneak back over portions of eastern Arizona on Tuesday in
response to a weak shortwave trough brushing the state. We`ll know
more as time draws nearer but for now it looks like it would be
the White Mountains that would see a slight chance of
afternoon/evening showers and thunderstorms.

&&

.AVIATION...Friday 02/12Z through Saturday 03/12Z...VFR
conditions. Daytime winds NE to SE 5-15 kts with local gusts to
20 kts. Nighttime winds mainly light and variable except local
gusts 10-20 kts downwind of terrain features, especially south of
the Mogollon Rim.

OUTLOOK...Saturday 03/12Z through Monday 05/12Z...VFR conditions.
Daytime winds NE to SE 5-15 kts, becoming light and variable
overnight. Locally breezy winds downwind of the terrain overnight,
especially south of the Mogollon Rim.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...Today and Saturday...Dry conditions with seasonable
temperatures. Winds northeast through southeast 5-15 mph each
afternoon, becoming light and variable overnight.

Sunday through Tuesday...Mainly dry conditions and continued near
normal temperatures. Slight chance for isolated showers Monday and
Tuesday across the higher terrain of eastern Arizona. Winds
east/southeast 5-10 mph on Sunday and Monday, becoming light and
variable on Tuesday.
