Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD
443 AM CDT Mon Oct 13 2025

.DISCUSSION...
Cooler temperatures have filtered in behind yesterday`s cold front
passage, but it has also brought drier air in with relative
humidity values as low as 30% expected this afternoon. However,
north/northeasterly winds will be much lighter today as high
pressure settles in and thus we`ll only see a low to moderate
fire danger this afternoon and evening.

Rain chances increase (40-80%) tonight and especially into
tomorrow when moderate rainfall will be possible at times. Winds
will pick up slightly out of the east, but relative humidity
values of 60-70% and rain chances will lead to a low fire danger
tomorrow afternoon and evening.

...MODERATE FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the moderate
category this afternoon. Marginal weather conditions or
lowering moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic
material on the ground, indicate that there is some potential
for a fire to spread. Any outdoor burning should be closely
monitored.

OUTLOOK FOR TUESDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the low category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category
this afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the
ground, indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is
low. Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be
with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored.
