After a record-setting Friday, cooler but still seasonably mild temperatures will return today through much of next week. Breezy north winds behind a cold front will result in locally elevated fire danger this afternoon in portions of southwest Minnesota and the Iowa Great Lakes. Lighter winds and weak mixing Sunday will lead to poor to fair smoke dispersal. Rain chances spread into the region Monday and Monday night, with a potential for some light snow in higher elevations of southwest Minnesota Monday night. Outdoor burning should be restricted to early morning or evening hours, when wind speeds are usually lower and the relative humidity is higher. OUTLOOK FOR SUNDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category. The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native grasses.
