799 FXUS64 KFWD 240558 AFDFWD Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Fort Worth TX 1258 AM CDT Fri Jul 24 2026 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - A Heat Advisory remains in effect across much of North Texas through 8 PM tonight. Heat index values up to around 107 degrees are expected. - Additional Heat Advisories may be needed through the weekend into early next week. && .SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 1251 AM CDT Fri Jul 24 2026 Though winds will return out of the south later this morning, increased moisture and cloud cover from Tropical Depression Bertha will spread across much of the region today. This influx of moisture may aid in some spotty showers this morning in southern and western Central Texas, but most will remain dry. The cloud cover will help to keep ambient air temperatures a bit more manageable in the mid- upper 90s. Moderate humidity will keep afternoon heat indices between 97-107 degrees, with highest heat index values expected mainly across portions of North Texas. Have expanded the already issued Heat Advisory a row of counties east, now encompassing Fannin to Van Zandt to account for the up to 106 degree expected heat index. There may be a few spots further south in Central Texas that approach or reach criteria, but it will be much more sporadic that far south thanks to the cloud cover and influx of tropical moisture. Nonetheless, it will still feel quite humid and hot outside, so make sure to stay cool and hydrated through the end of this week. && .LONG TERM... (Saturday through Thursday) Issued at 1251 AM CDT Fri Jul 24 2026 With the upper-level ridge remaining the dominant player in our regional weather pattern through the rest of the forecast period, expect hot and dry weather to persist through this weekend into the first half of this next week. Persisting southerly winds will aid in increasing daily highs back into the mid 90s to around 105 Monday onward. Continued moderate humidity will push heat indices up to between 99 to 110 degrees most afternoons, resulting in likely continuations of Heat Advisories in portions of North and Central Texas each day. Exact configurations will be decided upon a day by day basis. With hot and humid weather expected for the foreseeable future, make sure to continue to stay cool and hydrated. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1251 AM CDT Fri Jul 24 2026 East-southeast winds will prevail for the next several hours, but will gradually veer more southeast over the early morning as what is currently Tropical Depression Bertha advances further into South Texas. Moisture from Bertha will continue to spread northward overnight, resulting in a slug of MVFR stratus moving overtop the airports. Expect MVFR cigs to impact ACT closer to 07Z, and D10 around 10Z. MVFR cigs will linger through much of the morning before lifting and scattering back to VFR around 17Z. Expect southerly winds around 11-13 kt to prevail the rest of this afternoon into the overnight hours at all TAF sites. && .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
