.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:
- Winter storm Warnings and Advisories are in effect tonight into
  Saturday morning.

- Arctic air will then move in for the weekend. Lows Saturday
night look to be below zero for most of the area.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:
A low cloud deck mixed with areas of dense fog are in place across
the northern and down into some of the eastern zones this
afternoon.

A robust storm system is moving onshore in the Pacific Northwest
this afternoon with precipitation over WA state moving east. Snow
should move into the western zones this evening with the most
intense snow moving into mainly Phillips County late tonight. It
diminishes a bit Friday but spreads further into the CWA where up
to 2 inches per 6 hours can be expected. The snow should finally
end Saturday morning over the eastern zones. Totals should wind up
near 8 to 10 inches from Malta to Zortman. As much as 5 or 6
inches are possible in northern Dawson and Richland counties.
Therefore, the Winter Storm Watch was upgraded to a Winter Storm
Warning from the western zones east into Dawson and Richland
counties as it`s a high travel period and is early in the winter
season.

The next concern will be the cold that moves in Saturday. With a
1042 mb surface high dropping in, look for temperatures Saturday
through Sunday to be 20 to 25 degrees below normal. Lows Sunday
and Monday mornings look to be below zero for most areas. Extreme
Cold may be a concern mainly Sunday night in Phillips county.

Another, albeit weaker system moves in late Monday with light
snow. Less than an inch accumulation is expected at this point,
mainly over the southwestern zones.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:

Generally went with NBM but made some adjustments to pops for
tonight. Also adjusted visibility and fog to account for current
conditions.

Confidence is generally high for the upcoming winter storm system
with timing and amounts. TFJ
