KEY MESSAGES: - Warm and dry conditions will finish out the holiday weekend before a cold front swings through the region on Tuesday. - NW to Northerly winds beginning late Monday will bring smoke south into the area from Canada starting Monday night. - Cold front looks to bring scattered showers/thunderstorms early Tuesday (mainly northeast zones) with much cooler conditions by Wednesday. WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: Upper ridge building back into the region will bring dry and warm conditions over northeast Montana through Labor Day. A fairly strong closed low pressure system will swing through central Canada on Tuesday, as it tracks toward the Great Lakes. This will drop a cold front into Montana. NW then North winds will allow Canadian smoke to filter south into the area Monday night and Tuesday. A few showers or thunderstorms are possible, mainly near the North Dakota border with the front. Pressure rises and cold air advection suggests wind speeds may increase, and may reach Lake Wind criteria, but models are not indicating this yet. Current guidance suggests slower cold air advection, which may suppress the winds slightly. Cooler temperatures linger into the weekend with the strong low lingering over the Great Lakes. FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: No major deviations from the NBM, but did increase winds through Tuesday, blending them with the NBM90. Also increased pops slightly this evening as some CAMs were showing some showers dropping southeast through the northeast zones. TFJ && .AVIATION... UPDATED: 1930z. FLIGHT CONDITIONS: VFR. DISCUSSION: Some instability cumulus or mid-level clouds can be expected into this evening (mainly at KSDY) as a disturbance moves southeast across southern Saskatchewan. Mainly clear skies look to return however smoke will filter south into the area Monday night. TFJ && .GGW WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$ weather.gov/glasgow
