.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

- An upper level trough passing through Montana this weekend will
bring near to slightly below average daytime temperatures
through the end of the next week.

- Freezing temperatures Sunday night and Monday morning.

- Rain is expected today through Sunday morning. Most of the rain
will be south of the Missouri River.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:

Upper trough moves through Montana this weekend with cooler
temperatures and rain. Nighttime lows below freezing are expected
on Sunday night. The lowest temperatures will be in the lower 20s
in northern Philips and Valley counties.

A shortwave on SW flow aloft ahead of the trough moves into the
forecast area today. Chances for rain will increase from south to
north during the day today. Steady rain is expected this afternoon
and tonight mainly along and south of the Missouri River as the
upper trough moves through the area. Most of the rain with this
system will be south of the Missouri River where the probability
of 0.25 inch of rain is 40 to 80 percent while it will be 10
percent or less near the Canadian Border.

Chances for light rain will linger into Sunday morning south of
the Missouri River. Then, skies will clear Sunday afternoon as
high pressure moves into the area. Gusty NW winds may be high
enough to require a Lake Wind Advisory on Sunday.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:
Blended today and tonight PoP forecast with HiResWARW. Confidence
remains high for precipitation south of HWY 2 with increasing
confidence in higher PoPs south of MT Highway 200 this afternoon
