KEY MESSAGES: - Northerly winds will keep smoke over the area through Wednesday. - Another cold front expected Thursday with strong winds. WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: The first Fall-like airmass will be moving into the area tonight as a strong upper low is tracking toward the Great Lakes from central Canada. The northerly flow will keep Canadian smoke over the area through at least Wednesday. The coolest air will be to our east, but cooler than normal temps can be expected beginning Wednesday. A second and stronger shortwave and front will drop into the region on Thursday. Tighter pressure gradient with stacked low over southern Manitoba will bring stronger winds into northeast Montana. The orientation of the low suggest a mostly dry front, but with cooler temperatures, fire weather conditions are not yet a concern. This may push most of the smoke out of the area. The remainder of the forecast period has high pressure moving out of the northern Plains by the end of the week, and upper ridge pushing back across the northern Rockies. FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: Increased pops for today as the NBM has been undergoing the precipitation lately. Also blended the NBM90 into the winds for through Wednesday and with gusts on Thursday. Rest of forecast went mainly with NBM. && .AVIATION... UPDATE: 1910z FLIGHT CONDITIONS: VFR, possible MVFR. MVFR conditions are possible with visibility (and Slantwise visibility) reductions as smoke will linger through Wednesday. WINDS: Northeast at 10-20 kts this evening diminishing by Wed morning.
