Scattered showers/storms are ongoing across the area this morning,
currently located along and northwest of the Tri-Cities. These
showers/storms are expected to exit the area by sunrise. A cold
front passing through southeastern portions of the area will stall
out just southeast of the area this morning. Cooler weather is
expected today behind the frontal passage, with highs in the 70s and
80s coldest across northern portions of the area where low stratus
is the most persistent. Scattered thunderstorms are possible during
the afternoon-evening hours, most likely across southeastern
portions of the area closest to the stalled front. These storms exit
the area after sunset. Further west, a cluster of storms is likely
to develop over eastern CO. This cluster is expected to reach
western portions of the area during the late evening-overnight
hours, gradually weakening and diminishing in coverage over time.

Aloft a trough over the southwest moves over the plains and broadens
on Sunday. This troughing aloft lingers into early next week. Under
the influence of troughing and low stratus, seasonably cool weather
is expected across the area with highs in the low 60s (north) to low
70s (south). Scattered showers are possible on Sunday and Monday,
mainly across northern portions of the area. Fall-like weather
continues through the end of the forecast period though temperatures
begin to climb back towards normal late next week (mid 70s) as
ridging builds over the western U.S.

High temperatures spiked across the area this afternoon ahead of
a cold front that is forecast to cross the area tonight. This
front should eventually act as a trigger for some high based
shower and thunderstorm development, from roughly the Tri-
Cities east this evening. While severe weather is not expected,
plenty of elevated instability along with an inverted V
structure in soundings indicates there could be some stronger
wind gusts with the initial storm development. Once the front
tracks east by late evening, a second round of showers and
thunderstorm moving in from the west could again impact
portions of mainly south central Nebraska overnight.

Behind the cold front, expect a noticably cooler afternoon
across the area with high temperatures expected to fall 15 to 20
degrees from this afternoons high temperatures to start the
weekend. While most of the area will remain dry during the
daytime hours, models advertise another round of showers and
thunderstorms impacting parts of the area overnight Saturday
night as an upper level low approaches from the west. This low
is then expected to cross the local area Sunday, with a
reinforcing shot of cooler air along with cloudy skies likely
keeping high temperatures in the lower to middle 60s for most
Sunday afternoon.

Thereafter...a seasonably cool week (normal highs are in the mid
to upper 70s) along with multiple (mainly small) chances for
showers and thunderstorms are anticipated as west southwesterly
flow aloft continues with multiple embedded disturbances
expected through at least the end of next week.

For KGRI/KEAR Airports:

MVFR CIGS will persist at both terminals through the afternoon
hours with CIGS lowering during the late evening hours as an
approaching area of showers and thunderstorms from the west
spreads lower CIGS and the chance for -SHRAs and -TSRAs at both
sites. Could see some lingering BR behind this complex of storms
to start the day Sunday, with improving conditions (albeit with
continued MVFR CIGS) expected by around 20/15Z.
