.DISCUSSION...
Highs today climb into the upper 80s to 90s, with highs near 100
possible across north central Kansas. Winds start the day southerly
but shift to the southwest by the late morning hours. Sustained winds
around 15mph and gusts of 20-30mph are expected during the daytime
hours. A cold front moves into western portions of the area during
the afternoon hours. Winds become light and variable as the front
approaches, eventually becoming north-northeasterly behind the
frontal passage. The southwest to northeast oriented front is
expected to reach the Tri-cities during the evening hours (5-7pm).
Despite the heat and breezy winds, moisture remains high, keeping
relative humidity values at or above 30 percent, lowest across north
central Kansas. Fuels remain green enough and fire weather parameters
are marginal enough to keep fire weather concerns low.
Scattered thunderstorms are possible across the area during the
evening-overnight hours but overall rain looks to be light for most
areas (0.20" or less).
Cooler weather is expected behind the front on Saturday with highs
in the 70s to low 80s, though mid-upper 80s are possible
along/southeast of a line from Hebron-Beloit. Northerly winds will be
light, with gusts generally 15mph or less. Relative humidity values
will be high, 40-50 percent across Kansas and 60-80 percent across
Nebraska. Overall this keeps fire weather concerns low.
