.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1030 PM MDT Thu Oct 1 2026

High pressure remains in control Friday into the weekend with
drier conditions and warming temperatures to about 5 degrees
above normal. Hurricane Rachel looms just off the Baja and it
appears like the high pressure will remain in position to keep
this moisture from advecting northward. With the high
positioned over the Great Basin and Hurricane Rachel off the
Baja, it almost forms a Rex Block. Some high level moisture will
move into the area from a trough moving towards the west coast,
resulting in some high cirrus across the region this weekend.
Models are indicating some isolated storms potentially forming
over the San Juans Sunday afternoon. This eastern Pacific trough
opens up and moves over top of the ridge on Tuesday as an open
shortwave with some isolated to scattered storms possible over
the high terrain. Aside from that, conditions will remain mostly
dry through the coming week. The high will build back to the
west which further steers Hurricane Rachel westward out to sea.
High pressure ridge will shift eastward and remain overhead for
the remainder of the week with a Pacific Northwest trough
helping steer remnants of this tropical system up and around the
high and keeping us warm and dry through the remainder of the
week. High temperatures remain 5 to 10 degrees above normal
through the first week of October.
