.DISCUSSION...
Early this morning, a cold front will be pushing through. A rapid
shift of winds from the northwest and gusts up to 55 MPH are expected
with this front. There is a 20-30% chance of scattered storms with
this front along and north of U.S. 36. The strong winds will persist
through the morning where gusts of 40-55 MPH will be fairly common
and isolated gusts of 60 MPH may occur. Additionally, patchy blowing
dust will decrease air quality and may impact visibility. Around the
midday, winds will begin to weaken and eastern Colorado may again
see RH values drop into the mid teens. These winds and RH values
are allowing GFDI values to climb around 60 in parts of CO zones 253
and 254. However, the best winds are before RH values tank, leading
to about 40% confidence Red Flag criteria is hit. The rest of the
area looks to peak in the 30-50 GFDI range.
Friday and Saturday are also potential candidates for fire weather
days as RH values look to drop into the teens as winds gust in the
30-40 MPH range. Friday morning, winds from the south in eastern
Colorado look to be gusting in the 30-45 MPH range before weakening
in the midday again before RH values drop. Friday evening, scattered
storms are possible across the area. Sunday, the pattern changes and
precipitation chances increase again, staving off critical fire
weather conditions.
