In 1952, the temperature soared to 112 degrees in Burlington
Colorado, its all time record.

In 1990, a violent F4 tornado swept through Hitchcock and Red
Willow counties in southwest Nebraska. The multi vortex tornado
developed near Stratton and moved east northeast before lifting 5
miles northeast of McCook. In Hitchcock County, 35 rural homes
were damaged or destroyed, and one person was injured.
In Red Willow County, four farm homes and four trailers were
destroyed. The tornado picked up mud and water from Swanson
Lake, and put a half inch thick layer of mud on the southwest
sides of buildings and trees.
