Peak Wind /Estimated/: 70-80 mph Path Length /statute/: 9 miles Path Width /maximum/: N/A Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 06/09/2024 Start Time: 0902 pm EDT Start Location: 5 NNW Fort Lawn Start Lat/Lon: 34.7672/-80.9348 End Date: 06/09/2024 End Time: 0910 pm EDT End Location: 1 NNW Great Falls End Lat/Lon: 34.5814/-80.9065 A National Weather Service storm survey team from the National Weather Service office in Columbia, SC, determined that straight line winds associated with a line of severe thunderstorms was responsible for the extensive tree damage and minor structural damage that occurred in eastern Chester County Sunday evening. Maximum wind gusts were estimated to be around 70 to 80 mph. In Chester County, the more substantial damage began near Landsford and extended to the southeast through the Fort Lawn and Great Falls areas. In this area, SCDOT reported at least 45 trees down on roadways. In addition, there were 2 gas station canopies that were tipped over, one in Great Falls and another in Fort Lawn. The canopy in Fort Lawn landed on a vehicle occupied by 2 people who were not injured. One area with extensive tree damage was along Jackson Road, adjacent to Fishing Creek Reservoir, where numerous large hardwood trees were uprooted and many large branches snapped. A large uprooted tree fell on a vehicle on Jackson Road.
