308 FXUS61 KGYX 240524 AFDGYX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Gray ME 1224 AM EST Mon Nov 24 2025 .SYNOPSIS... High pressure builds today with fair weather through at least later Tuesday afternoon. A warm front will bring chances for rain Tuesday night with a wintry mix possible near the Canadian border. Temperatures rise well above normal Wednesday followed by a cold front crossing Thursday morning with cooler and breezy conditions to end the week. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/... High pressure gradually moves in from the west today as low pressure moves farther out of sea. The pressure gradient will bring NW wind gusts around 20 MPH. Otherwise, fair weather is expected with highs in the 30s in the mountains and 40s at lower elevations. && .SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/... Return flow around the high will bring increasing high clouds tonight while the forecast area will remain dry. Lows will be mainly in the 20s. Continued increasing clouds are expected on Tuesday as a warm front approaches from the southwest. However, any precipitation should hold off until after dark. Highs will be well into the 40s to around 50. && .LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/... Overview: Precipitation chances will increase Tuesday night into early Wednesday as a broad trof moves across southern Quebec and sends a series of fronts northward across New England. A cold front will then cross on Wednesday night into Thursday with colder temperatures and upslope snow expected behind this front. Impacts: Some mixed wintry precipitation is possible Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning across the northern valleys. This may lead to locally slippery travel conditions. Forecast Details: A trof of low pressure will move across southern Quebec on Tuesday night into Wednesday, sending a warm front northward across New England. This will result in an overrunning precipitation event Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Most locations will just receive a light rainfall with generally less than 1/2" of QPF. There could be enough cold air for some mixed wintry precipitation across some northern valleys, which could result in locally slippery travel conditions. Low temperatures will range from the 30s across the interior with 40s along the coast and in southern NH. A non-diurnal temperature trend is likely along the coast and in southern areas. Rain should end early Wednesday but skies will remain mainly cloudy with high temperatures into the 40s and 50s. A cold front then will likely cross Wednesday night into Thursday morning, bringing scattered rain and snow showers with low temperatures primarily into the 30s. Temperatures are then likely to cool to near or a little below avg through the remainder of the week and upcoming weekend with upslope snow across the mountains and towards the Canadian Border. && .AVIATION /06Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/... Short Term...Occasional MVFR in the mountains today otherwise VFR conditions will be the rule most terminals today through Tuesday. NW Winds will gust at times around 20 kt today. Long Term...Some restrictions are likely Tues night into Wed morning as -RA and lower ceilings arrive. Conditions should then improve later Wed. Increasing SW winds are possible late week. && .MARINE... Short Term...Winds and seas will remain below SCA thresholds through Tuesday, although some gusts to 20 kts are possible during the day today.
