532 FXUS64 KHGX 150406 AFDHGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 1106 PM CDT Fri Aug 14 2026 ...New DISCUSSION, MARINE... .KEY MESSAGES... - High pressure will intensify through the weekend, reducing chances of rain to near zero this weekend well into next week. - Slightly above average summertime heat (upper 90s/lower 100s) will persist through most of the rest of the month across Southeast Texas. The potential for Heat Advisory issuance remains elevated as a result. - Without adequate precautions outdoors, cumulative impacts of heat and heat stress will remain a significant risk factor to health (especially for heat-sensitive populations). && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 1050 PM CDT Fri Aug 14 2026 The mid-level high pressure meandering over Southeast CONUS during the last few days will gradually shift westward and move across Texas this weekend. By early next week, the high will progress further west into New Mexico and Arizona, remaining around that region through at least mid week. So what does that mean for us here in Southeast Texas? Basically, a "rinse and repeat" weather pattern of hot and dry conditions is to be expected for the next several days. Look for highs in the upper 90s inland and the lower to mid 90s along the coast, with a few spots possible reaching 100 deg F by mid-week. The heat indices will peak between 105-110 deg F in the afternoons. At night, it will remain warm and muggy with inland lows generally in the mid to upper 70s for most days and the upper 70s to lower 80s along the coast. South to southeast winds will generally be around 10 mph during the daytime and at 5 mph or less at night. It is imperative that you protect yourself, your loved ones, and pets safe from these dangerously hot temperatures. Do not underestimate the effects of heat stress when working or spending time outdoors. Drink plenty of water, limit time outdoors, wear loose fitting and light colored clothing, take frequent breaks, and remember to use sunscreen. High pressure building into the region will lead to little to no rain chances through the next several days. VFR conditions will largely prevail through the period other than some periods of MVFR conditions at CLL late tonight into early tomorrow morning and some patchy fog impacting CXO near dawn.
