Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
500 AM EDT Fri Oct 17 2025

Valid 00Z Sat 18 Oct 2025 - 00Z Sat 25 Oct 2025

A trade wind pattern is expected to prevail through next week
with the subtropical surface high slowly edges closer to Hawaii
from the northwest. Meanwhile, a positively-tilted mid- to upper-
level trough/low that has been lingering near or just northwest of
the main islands is forecast to slowly push southward as a
subtropical high builds in from the northwest. The associated
instability and moisture pumping from the ITCZ farther south will
provide opportunities for additional local downpours and
thunderstorms from time to time. As an upper low center shifts
slowly westward and the subtropical high builds in from the
northwest, rain chances should gradually decrease later next week.
Meanwhile, trade winds will continue to favor windward terrain
rain activities.
