South Central Jackson County in northeastern Alabama... * Until 1000 PM CDT. * At 833 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to backbuilding thunderstorms in the Scottsboro, Section, Dutton, and Powell areas. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen and additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Scottsboro, Hollywood, Powell, Section and Dutton. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads.
