Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Alabama
National Weather Service Huntsville AL
433 AM CDT Mon Jun 16 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Showers and thunderstorms will once again impact much of northern
AL from this afternoon into the evening hours, as morning low
clouds and fog dissipate permitting the local airmass to become
unstable. However, it appears as if a slightly greater coverage of
thunderstorms (and risk for a few strong-severe cells) will occur
on Tuesday as a weak trough of low pressure shifts eastward
across the region. Chances for showers and storms will remain
fairly high on Tuesday night, but should diminish a bit on
Wednesday, before increasing once again on Thursday. The general
coverage of showers and thunderstorms will diminish considerably
from Friday through the upcoming weekend as a strengthening ridge
of high pressure aloft builds across much of the eastern U.S.
However, any thunderstorms that do materialize could be rather
intense as the airmass will be very hot and unstable. Dangerous
heat will become more of a concern during this portion of the
forecast period, as heat index values will steadily rise into the
100-105F range by Sunday. For the next couple of days, smoke
dispersion indices will be good, due to mixing heights of
3500-4500 ft and transport winds of 15-25 MPH.

Fog potential over the next few days: Patchy light fog will be
possible each of the next few mornings, beneath a layer of low
stratus clouds. The fog will be most prevalent in locations that
experience wetting rainfall.

Potential for Red Flag Conditions: None at this time.
