Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Alabama
National Weather Service Huntsville AL
417 AM CDT Mon Sep 1 2025

.DISCUSSION...

The interaction of a surface convergence axis and light
southwesterly low-level jet will bring showers and a few
thunderstorms to the region from today-Tuesday. Although
probabilities for precipitation will be highest today (as the
surface boundary lifts northwestward across the region) and
slightly lower tomorrow (with the boundary positioned to our
northwest) thunderstorms forming in the vicinity of this feature
will spread southeastward into and across our forecast area
throughout the near term period, bringing a risk for occasional
lightning and locally heavy rainfall. Smoke dispersion will be
generally good today, with mixing heights ranging from ~5000 ft in
the east to ~7500 ft in the west and transport winds of 5-10 MPH.
Dispersion indices will fall into the fair range tomorrow, as
mixing heights lower with additional cloud cover. Chances for
showers and thunderstorms will continue at times from Wednesday
into Thursday, with a final round possible Saturday morning in
advance of a strong cold front.

Fog potential over the next few days: Patchy fog may develop in a
few locations early this morning, prior to the development of
thicker clouds. Beyond this morning, the risk for fog development
is highly uncertain.

Potential for Red Flag Conditions: None at this time.
