Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Alabama
National Weather Service Huntsville AL
429 AM CDT Tue Jun 17 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Showers and thunderstorms will spread eastward into northwest AL
early this morning in conjunction with a slow-moving surface
trough. This activity will impact the western half of the forecast
area early in the day and the eastern half of the forecast area
this afternoon, before dissipating within a few hours of sunset.
Although a few additional showers may redevelop prior to sunrise
on Wednesday, a risk for storms will not materialize until late
Wednesday morning (and coverage should be lower and confined to
the southeastern fire weather zones). A final round of widespread
thunderstorm activity is expected to occur beginning early
Thursday morning, as a weakening cold front approaches our region
from the northwest. Similar to today, some of the storms could be
strong-severe, and capable of producing locally damaging
winds/large hail. Beyond Thursday, a hotter and somewhat drier
weather pattern will develop, although isolated (but intense)
afternoon storms may develop on Sunday and Monday. For the next
couple of days, smoke dispersion will be in the generally good-
good range, with transport winds of 15-25 MPH and mixing heights
of 3500-4500 ft.

Fog potential over the next few days: Conditions will be
favorable for the development of patchy/locally dense fog in
sheltered valleys and near large bodies of water each morning from
today through early next week.

Potential for Red Flag Conditions: None at this time.
