Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Alabama
National Weather Service Huntsville AL
440 AM CDT Thu Jun 19 2025

.DISCUSSION...

An extensive area of rain and thunderstorms will continue to
spread southeastward across northern AL early this morning, with
trailing light rain expected to end from NW-to-SE late this
morning. However, additional showers and storms (generated by
either a remnant outflow boundary or a cold front to our
northwest) will be possible throughout the afternoon and into the
early evening hours. Strong wind gusts up to 50 MPH, lightning and
heavy rainfall may occur with this activity. A warmer and drier
weather pattern is still expected to unfold beginning tomorrow,
with only a few afternoon showers/storms possible across northwest
AL tomorrow and Saturday. As an upper-level ridge of high
pressure strengthens across the central Appalachians/Mid-Atlantic
states late this weekend and early next week, excessive heat and
humidity will become a concern across the TN Valley (but
especially across the western half of the forecast area, where
higher dewpoints in the mid 70s will exist). The coverage of
mainly afternoon/early evening thunderstorms will gradually
increase from Sunday-Wednesday, but at this point chances for
wetting rain still appear low (10-20%). Smoke dispersion will be
good today, with mixing heights of 4000-4500 ft and transport
winds of 15-20 MPH. Dispersion indices will fall into the fair
category on Friday.

Fog potential over the next few days: Development of patchy fog
will be possible in valleys and near large water sources each
morning from today through early next week.

Potential for Red Flag Conditions: None at this time.
