.DISCUSSION...
A large area of rain and embedded thunderstorms will continue to
shift eastward across northern AL this afternoon, bringing wetting
rainfall to most of the region before departing to the northeast
early this evening. After a brief clearing and drying trend during
the early morning hours Friday, low clouds will quickly return to
the TN Valley after sunrise, with additional showers and some
thunderstorms possible Friday and Friday night. Although
widespread strong-severe thunderstorms are not anticipated, a few
stronger cells may occur from Friday night into Saturday morning.
A passing cold front will veer low-level winds from SW to NW on
Saturday, ushering a slightly cooler/drier airmass into the region
late in the day. However, low clouds and some light rain will be
possible throughout the afternoon. Smoke dispersion indices will
be in the fair range tomorrow, with mixing heights of 2000-3000 ft
and transport winds around 15 MPH. However, conditions for smoke
dispersion will improve on Saturday.
In the extended portion of the forecast, it still appears as if
another strong storm system will bring additional rain and storms
to the local area on Monday night/Tuesday. This will be followed
by a cooling trend that will last through the end of next week.
Fog potential over the next few days: Patchy fog will be possible
in wind-sheltered locations late tonight, with conditions
slightly more favorable for fog development late Saturday
night/early Sunday morning.
Potential for Red Flag Conditions: None at this time.
