.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 241 PM CDT Fri Oct 2 2026

A ridge of high pressure at the surface nosing into eastern Kansas
will bring a stable post-frontal regime to the area tonight and
Saturday. As this ridge translates eastward return flow will
gradually develop allowing southerly winds to return to the region
from west to east as we move through the day on Saturday. Another
shortwave trough racing eastward along the Canadian border will
drive a cold front south late Sat shifting winds to the
north/northeast on Sunday. This will allow another ridge of high
pressure to build in Sunday night, allowing for strong radiational
cooling. This will result in below average minimum temperatures on
Sunday morning with low-lying areas falling into the mid 40s in some
locations.

Tranquil weather will persist as we head into next week. Northwest
mid/upper flow will prevail early in the week leading to dry and
breezy conditions with above average temperatures anticipated.
Afternoon highs are expected to rise into the low to mid 80s by mid
week and persist through the end of the week. Another progressive
shortwave trough racing eastward along the Canadian border will
drive a subtle frontal boundary southward across the northern Plains
late Tue with little or no impact to sensible weather across the
Central Plains. This feature may be followed by another late
Thursday into Friday but we continue to see some uncertainty in how
far south the cold front plunges leading to a continuation of mild
and tranquil weather across the central Plains.
