Dense fog has developed over Nebraska and northern Kansas early this
morning and could spread southward towards I-70 corridor. Hot and
humid conditions along with dry weather will be on tap across the
region for today and Friday with upper level high pressure remaining
in control over the area. Heading into the weekend models in good
agreement with a upper level wave projected to eject from the
Rockies out into the central plains on Sunday. This system will
push a frontal boundary slowly southward on Saturday with
another hot day expected for locations south of the front.
Scattered thunderstorms look to develop along the front Saturday
afternoon and could become more numerous Saturday night as the
front slows down. A few strong storms are possible with severe
weather chances low due to weak wind shear. There is some
potential for heavy rainfall given higher precipitable water
values and slower storm movement. Models show the front sinking
slowly southward from Kansas into Oklahoma by Sunday night. This
will keep decent chances for rain over the area on Sunday into
Sunday night along with cooler temperatures finally overspreading
the area.

Heading into next week model ensembles continue to show high
probabilities of daytime highs remaining below 85 degrees across
much of the area.

Breezy SSW afternoon winds will back to a southeast direction
and diminish by early evening. Breezy southerly winds will
return by mid morning on Friday with gusts to around 35 mph at
times in central KS. There is some concern that we could see
some early morning shower activity redevelop across central KS
around sunrise but this activity is expected to be transient in
nature. VFR is expected to prevail through the 24-hr period with
some fair weather cumulus is possible (7k-8k ft range) in
southeast KS this afternoon and again tomorrow afternoon.
