In 1992, the second of a two day outbreak of 123 tornadoes occurred. Of the 65 tornadoes that occurred on the 16th two were violent. The most violent of all was an F5 that tore through Chandler Minnesota on the 16th. It caused around $50 million damage, killed one and injured 40. The massive vortex had a path 16 miles long and reached three fourths of a mile wide. In all, the tornadoes from the 15th and 16th caused $242 million damage. At the time, it was the third largest tornado outbreak on record spanning a two day period. In 1987, incredibly powerful thunderstorms produced a 96 mph gust at Valley City North Dakota, as well as baseball sized hail near Red Oak Iowa. The extent of damage was not reported. Parts of the Upper Midwest melted in around 105 degree heat as Lincoln Nebraska soared to 104 degrees. $$ Auto
