...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1967, a record November snowstorm buried Washington
D.C. with up to a foot of snow in a 12-hour period. In
2011, incredibly powerful Santa Ana winds with sustained
speeds around 80 mph and gusts of 100 to 120 mph roared
through Southern California. Roofs were torn off several
homes and businesses, large trees were uprooted (some of
which fell onto homes and power lines), vehicles were
flipped over and power poles snapped. Power outages were
reported in many areas, among them Los Angeles
International Airport which was without power for about 1
hour. Many inbound flights were diverted and no doubt
caused major inconveniences, especially for international
flights that originated from as far away as Southeast
Asia. Two runways were closed due to strewn debris.
