Wind gusts exceeded 45 to 50 mph over portions of western Kansas at times. High temperatures were mostly in the 80s, although a few low 90s were noted over the western half of the state. Average high temperatures this time of year are in the 70s. A strong storm system approaching from the west will be the focus for scattered showers and thunderstorms this evening over northwest Kansas. The strongest activity will be capable of strong wind gusts. Otherwise, dry, mild, and breezy weather will prevail across the rest of the state overnight, with forecast low temperatures in the 60s, although cooler 50s will encompass northwest Kansas. Average low temperatures this time of year are in the 40s and 50s. Another warm day is expected Sunday, with gusty south winds continuing. By late afternoon or early evening, a strong cold front approaching from the northwest will be the focus for scattered thunderstorms across central Kansas. A few strong to marginally severe thunderstorms are possible. Forecast high temperatures are in the 80s, although cooler 70s are likely over northwest Kansas in wake of the cold front. $$
