National Weather Service Wichita KS
444 PM CDT Mon Aug 17 2026

Areas of light to moderate rain with a few rumbles of thunder
impacted southern Kansas this morning, with much of the activity
clearing out by afternoon. Under mostly sunny skies, late day
temperatures were in the 80s to low 90s across the state.

An isolated thunderstorm or two can`t be ruled out across
generally the northwest half of Kansas tonight, but most locations
should stay thunderstorm-free. Forecast low temperatures are in
the 60s to low 70s.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorm chances will increase Tuesday
across generally the northern half of Kansas, as a strong cold
front approaches from the north. A handful of strong to severe
thunderstorms are possible. It`ll be a rather hot day, with
forecast high temperatures reaching well into the 100s over
portions of central and southern Kansas, with much cooler 80s over
portions of northeast Kansas.
