...CHANGES IN FLOOD CATEGORY LEVELS AT THE NWS RIVER FORECAST
POINT ALONG THE MAD RIVER NEAR SPRINGFIELD, OH WILL CHANGE ON
SEPTEMBER 16...

Effective Tuesday September 16, 2025, river flood categories for
the Mad River near Springfield will change. The U.S. Geological
Survey and Miami Conservancy District have moved the gage
downstream of the previous location, prompting a change in the
equivalent water surface elevation. So a flood as measured by the
new gage location will read differently/higher than the previous
gage location.

As a result of this move, all flood category stages will also
change. The changes to these flood levels were closely coordinated
with the USGS, Miami Conservancy District and Clark County
Emergency Management.

The new critical levels are:

Action stage will be raised to 9 feet, from the existing Action
stage of 6 feet.

Flood stage/minor flood level will be raised to 12 feet, from the
existing Flood stage/minor flood level stage of 8 feet.

Moderate flood level will be raised to 16 feet, from the existing
Moderate flood level of 13 feet.

Major flood level will be raised to 18 feet, from the existing
Major flood level of 15 feet.
