.DISCUSSION...
Reminder: The fire weather season for central and southeast
Illinois will formally end on Monday, December 15th, by which
time, we will no longer provide afternoon updates. We will
continue to update this product and other fire-related products
once per day, each morning, until the fire weather season resumes
around February 15th.
Most areas north of I-70 received a measurable snow on Saturday,
with totals ranging from 3 to 8 inches. Bitter cold conditions
will persist through Monday morning, with highs today only
reaching the single digits. Surface high pressure moves in today,
resulting in very light, disorganized winds, and poor
ventilation.
Southwest winds develop on Monday, with gusts of 20-30 mph.
Shallow mixing will keep ventilation poor, however. A gradual
warming trend is expected through mid-week, with winds generally
maintaining a southerly component through at least early Thursday
morning. Little to no precipitation is expected through
Wednesday.
