...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS APPROACHING THE WATERS...

The areas affected include...
  Lake Michigan Michigan City IN to St. Joseph MI 5 NM offshore to
  mid-line of lake....
  Michigan City IN to New Buffalo MI...
  New Buffalo MI to St Joseph MI...

At 342 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable
of producing winds to around 40 knots. These thunderstorms were
located along a line extending from near Valparaiso to 16 nm
southeast of Michigan City to 36 nm south of New Buffalo, moving
northeast at 50 knots.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 800 PM EDT for northwestern
Indiana...southwestern Michigan...and the adjacent waters of Lake
Michigan.

Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher
waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor
immediately until these storms pass.

These strong thunderstorms will likely produce winds in excess of 34
knots, and is likely to pose a serious hazard for boaters. A special
marine warning will likely be required when these strong
thunderstorms reach the nearshore waters. Boaters should consider
heading for shore before these strong thunderstorms arrive.

Intense lightning is occurring with these storms. If caught on the
open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded
metal objects.
