192 FXUS62 KKEY 190230 AFDKEY Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Key West FL 1030 PM EDT Wed Jun 18 2025 ...New DISCUSSION, MARINE, AVIATION... .DISCUSSION... Issued at 1030 PM EDT Wed Jun 18 2025 It has been a calm evening across the Florida Keys. KBYX radar is not detecting any shower or thunderstorm activity across the coverage area. With that said, there are some isolated showers to the east of the eastern distant Straits of Florida as well as isolated showers and thunderstorms just outside the Florida Keys offshore Gulf waters near R Tower. There was also some activity just to the south of the Straits near Cuba. GOES East Nighttime Microphysics imagery shows partly cloudy skies across the Keys with low level cumulus and a few high level cirrus clouds. Temperatures along the Island Chain are in the mid 80s with dew points in the upper 70s making it sure feel like it is summer. Deep mean layer ridging remains anchored across much of the Atlantic. As a result, marine platforms around the Keys are observing east to southeast breezes near 15 knots and Island Chain communities observing 10 to 15 mph. .SHORT TERM FORECAST... Deep mean layer ridging is expected to remain the name of the game through the overnight period. The 00z evening sounding shows a mostly dry profile, though, there is a shallow moist layer between 950-925 mb or 1500-3000 AGL. The wind profile shows east to southeast breezes of 15 to 20 knots through the lowest 5000 ft before becoming chaotic and weaker above this. The PWAT value measured was 1.58 inches which is between the 25th percentile and median for the date. Overall, expecting a generally calm night, though, there is the potential for an isolated shower or thunderstorm, especially across the marine area overnight. Therefore, no changes expected with this update. && .MARINE... Issued at 1030 PM EDT Wed Jun 18 2025 There are currently no watches, warnings, or advisories in effect across the Florida Keys coastal waters. From synopsis, atlantic ridging will remain across the Florida Peninsula through Sunday. This will support moderate to occasionally fresh east to southeast breezes and isolated, fast- moving showers and thunderstorms at times. Winds will peak in the evening and overnight periods, while lulling during the day. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 1030 PM EDT Wed Jun 18 2025 VFR conditions are expected to persist throughout the TAF period. Near surface winds will remain east to southeast between 9 to 14 knots. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
