GMZ005-181430- Synopsis for Keys coastal waters from Ocean Reef to Dry Tortugas 1018 PM EDT Fri Jul 17 2026 .SYNOPSIS... A weak surface trough over the eastern Gulf and northern Florida will maintain a split ridge pattern across Florida for the next several days. The Keys will either be within a col region south of the broad surface trough, or within the southern quadrant of the trough. Thus, breezes across the Florida Keys will be variable at times, or take on a more robust southerly component. Our forecast takes the middle ground and is an average of the two scenarios. Regardless of the scenario, breezes will tend to surge overnight, then lull in the afternoon. The Approximate Shoreward Edge of the Gulf Stream as of July 17, 2026... 49 NM South of Dry Tortugas Light...on Loggerhead Key. 51 NM South of Cosgrove Shoal Light...off the Marquesas Keys. 38 NM South of Sand Key Light...off Key West. 22 NM South of Looe Key...off Big Pine Key. 13 NM South of Sombrero Key Light...off Marathon. 6 NM Southeast of Alligator Reef Light...off Islamorada. 2 NM Southeast of Molasses Reef Light...off Key Largo. 1 NM Southeast of Carysfort Reef Light...off Ocean Reef.
