Survey Summary:
A waterspout, likely preceding an advancing, forward-propagating
squall line from the oceanside of the Upper Florida Keys of Monroe
County, was observed making landfall in the southern portion of the
Silver Shores community southwest of Rock Harbor. The onshore portion
of the narrow circulation demolished the waterfront aluminum frame
porch, exterior to the structural frame of a residence, with
glass/vinyl glass windows of an elevated/concrete stilted residence
when the ceiling tracks for the porch walls detached from the roof. A
large metal roof panel completely detached and was deposited
approximately 500 feet to the west-southwest of the residence, 30 to
40 feet above ground level into a large tree. The track termination
is estimated one block inland due to a lack of additional damages
observed, but is on plane with the deposition of the large metal roof
section, cross-track counterclockwise from the estimated landfalling
waterspout path. Appreciation is given to Monroe County Emergency
Management and the Key Largo Fire Rescue District for initial
assessments.
