404 FXUS63 KLBF 262316 AFDLBF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service North Platte NE 516 PM CST Wed Nov 26 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... - Chance of snow late Friday night into Saturday - Winds increase early Saturday, with strongest winds on Saturday afternoon for all of western and north central Nebraska - Much cooler temperatures Saturday into early next week && .SHORT TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/... Issued at 423 PM CST Wed Nov 26 2025 Thanksgiving is expected to remain mostly dry under northwest flow aloft. Temperatures will be near normal for this time of year with highs in the mid to upper 30s across the northern Sandhills into north central Nebraska and in the 40s across the Sandhills into southwest Nebraska. For Friday areas west of HWY 83 will be on the periphery of 850 WAA warming temperatures into the upper 40s to low 50s. && .LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 423 PM CST Wed Nov 26 2025 For the long term the main concern will be late Friday into Saturday`s precipitation chances and strong winds. An approaching upper level trof will advance eastward and ahead of it mid- level fgen will increase, leading to an increase in precipitation chances as we head into late Friday. At this time, precipitation is anticipated to mainly occur after midnight, however kept low PoPs in between 00z and 06z, to account for slightly earlier timing of some light precipitation in the late evening. As mentioned most of the precipitation is expected to fall after midnight through Saturday morning into the early afternoon. The time period for precipitation at this time looks to be a short window of only around 12-18 hours as isentropic downglide looks to move in fairly quickly, ushering in drier air. Most of the precipitation should taper off by late Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening. Forecast snowfall amounts are expected to be around 1.5 inches or less with the highest amounts across far eastern portions of north central Nebraska. Confidence is moderate in seeing at least some light snowfall accumulations across the northern Sandhills into north central Nebraska. Uncertainty still remains across the far northwest Sandhills where there could be some influence from upslope that could result in some increase in the snowfall amounts along with potentially areas of north central Nebraska where uncertainty in snow remains as well. However at this time probabilistic models indicated that even with the uncertainty the likelihood of seeing accumulation amounts exceed 4 inches in a 24 hour period is only around 10 to 30 percent at this time. A cold front will move through early Saturday switching winds to the northwest with winds increasing through the day. Strongest winds will be in the afternoon with gust of 35 to 40 mph, however there could be some localized areas that may see wind gusts greater than 40 mph. The combination of winds and snow in the northern Sandhills and north central Nebraska could lead to some visibility reductions. The cold front will bring a reinforcing shot of the cold air with low temperatures dropping into the single digits on Saturday and highs on Sunday in the 20s, with another night of mostly single digit lows. Wind chills on both Saturday and Sunday night will reach a few degrees below zero across the northern Sandhills and north central Nebraska. Will need to continue to monitor the system as it gets closer as any shifts in the track or timing could impact snowfall potential. There is also a low end chance of precipitation Sunday as a weak shortwave approaches the area, this would generally be for locations across western and southwest Nebraska. && .AVIATION /00Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z FRIDAY/... Issued at 516 PM CST Wed Nov 26 2025 VFR conditions will persist the next 24 hours across western and north central Nebraska. VFR ceilings from 5-10k feet AGL this evening, will transition to high cloudiness with clearing skies from west to east through daybreak. Winds will remain light below 10kt through the end of the TAF period. && .LBF WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$ SHORT TERM...Gomez LONG TERM...Gomez AVIATION...Roberg
