321 FXUS63 KLBF 291152 AFDLBF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service North Platte NE 652 AM CDT Fri Aug 29 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... - Patchy fog across western and north central Nebraska this morning - There is a marginal chance of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening - Scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms across western and north central Nebraska, heavy rainfall possible across north central NE - Cooler below normal temperatures continue into early next week && .SHORT TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/... Issued at 409 AM CDT Fri Aug 29 2025 Patchy fog is possible once again tonight as a similar set up as yesterday morning is in place with light southeast winds and monsoonal low level moisture. Don`t expect widespread fog across the area and although visibilities will drop, it is not anticipated to be widespread at 1/4 mile, thus no headlines have been issued for fog. Patchy fog is expected to dissipate by mid-morning as winds increase and temperatures rise. As for thunderstorm chances this afternoon and evening, the greatest potential will generally be along and west of HWY 83 for strong to severe thunderstorms. A lee trof will move into western Nebraska and become the axis of focus for thunderstorm development this afternoon. Although there will be some patchy fog and stratus in the morning, low clouds are expected to lift by morning and temperatures will warm through the afternoon, with modest instability expected. Modest shear is also expected around 30 to 40 kts, with 1500 to 2000 J/kg of CAPE. Expect the mode to generally be multi-cell with the primary hazard being hail and secondary threats of damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall. WPC has portions of southwest and north central Nebraska in a slight risk for excessive rainfall today. Expect most convection to hold off until late afternoon and evening with storms possibly lingering through the overnight. && .LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/... Issued at 409 AM CDT Fri Aug 29 2025 Another disturbance will move through on Saturday and will bring the potential for showers and thunderstorms. At this time severe weather is not expected, however heavy rainfall will be possible. Shift of Tails highlights areas of north central and central Nebraska for the area of greatest potential for higher confidence where heavy rainfall may fall. WPC has this area outlooked in a slight risk for excessive rainfall. Heavy rainfall may linger through Sunday overnight for portions of north central Nebraska. Temperatures remain below normal this weekend into early next week with highs in the 70s to low 80s. A cold front is expected to move through Tuesday bringing even cooler temperatures for Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s. && .AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z SATURDAY/... Issued at 626 AM CDT Fri Aug 29 2025 Low cigs and patchy fog will create MVFR or lower conditions through early afternoon. Cigs will lift in the afternoon and VFR conditions will return for the afternoon and early evening hours. Then lower cigs will return in the evening hours with MVFR or lower conditions returning.
