Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western
and North Central for Nebraska
National Weather Service North Platte NE
353 PM CDT Thu Oct 16 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Rain and thunderstorms, with an additional round possible late
Thursday afternoon into Friday evening, will pose a threat for
wetting rains. This along with a post frontal cooldown for Friday
and again Saturday will keep fire weather concerns low through
then. Rainfall has been moderate in intensity thus far and will
likely see this remain the case going forward. A few locations
could potentially seeing 1-2" before all is said and done. The
higher end of this range will likely be fairly isolated and not a
widespread result.

Attention turns to this weekend with a disturbance tracking out of
Wyoming Saturday. A cool front will bring rain chances (up to 40%)
across our northern zones but breezy northwest winds. The cooldown
following this could introduce frost/freeze concerns for Sunday
morning. Then, a quick warm up during the day Sunday with
lingering dry air will likely lead to elevated, perhaps near-
critical in localized areas, fire weather concerns. This will
favor west of Highway 83.

Concerns then decrease for the following work-week as temperatures
remain near to slightly above normal but low-level humidity
remains above critical levels.
