Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western
and North Central for Nebraska
National Weather Service North Platte NE
343 PM CDT Tue Sep 2 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Elevated fire weather condition continue for the western Sandhills
this afternoon before recovery begins by 4-5pm MDT.

Tonight, recovery will be good for areas east of Highway 83 but
tempered to the west due to increasing winds as a strong cool
front settles south. This frontal boundary will bring limited
rain chances to our far northeast zones (eastern 208, northeast
209) but cooler temperatures that will limit concerns for
Wednesday.

Thursday, another warm up is likely as westerly flow becomes
northwesterly and temperatures quickly climb into the 80s. Gusty
winds will approach 35 mph for our western zones with the above
normal temperatures and dry air should allow humidity to fall to
the 20 to 25 percent range. At this time, no fire weather
headlines are planned.

Cooler temperatures thanks to reinforcing high pressure arrive for
Friday and the weekend. It`s only early the next week we see a
return to above normal temperatures and perhaps some fire weather
concerns but confidence in precise forecast temperatures is low at
this time.
