Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western
and North Central for Nebraska
National Weather Service North Platte NE
304 AM CDT Thu Jun 19 2025

...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM CDT /10 AM MDT/ FRIDAY TO
MIDNIGHT CDT /11 PM MDT/ SATURDAY NIGHT...

.DISCUSSION...

Though recent rainfall has allowed fuels to become less receptive,
elevated fire weather conditions are likely each day Thursday
through Saturday west of Highway 83.

This is due to anomalous heat and strong south to southwesterly
flow each day as gusts near 30 to 40 mph. Red Flag Warning
conditions are likely to be observed each day Friday and Saturday
as the heat wave peaks. Afternoon humidity values will bottom out
in the lower teens with mixing heights likely exceeding 3km AGL.
Fuel status precludes headlines but weather is favorable for
erratic behavior of any fire starts in lingering dry areas.

Much cooler temperatures arrive as early as Sunday for some but
by Monday for all. This will be accompanied by increased rain and
thunderstorm chances. As of the current forecast, potential for
seeing wetting rains appears to be good with probabilities of
exceeding a quarter inch of rain climbing to 40 to 70 percent
across the forecast area Tuesday.
