.DISCUSSION...
Fire weather concerns remain limited through the upcoming weekend
for western and central Nebraska.
Following cooler temperatures on Wednesday east of Highway 61,
values rebound back to upper 70s to lower 80s Thursday. As a weak
front settles in the Sandhills, dry air will mix down and promote
humidity levels in the 15 to 25 percent range. Limiting concern,
however, will be winds of 15 mph or less west of Highway 83.
Upper-level ridging will build through Friday followed quickly by
the prototypical ridge breakdown on Saturday. While this usually
is a concern for fire weather, the southwesterly flow aloft will
allow an influx of moisture from the remnants of Hurricane
Priscilla in the eastern Pacific. This will push precipitable
water levels near 200 percent of normal. Some of this moisture
will likely mix to the surface as well, keeping humidity minimums
at 35 percent or higher Friday and Saturday. Though moisture
quality won`t be lacking, most forcing for precipitation will
remain northwest of the area keeping rainfall potential quite
limited through the forecast period.
