.DISCUSSION...
Red Flag Warnings have been issued for portions of western
Nebraska Tuesday. A similar setup to Sunday exists Tuesday with
modest overnight humidity recovery allowing for a quick start on a
very warm, westerly wind day. Daytime highs will climb into the
upper 70s to near 80 degrees with southerly winds becoming
westerly and gusting up to 35 mph. Confidence is high in seeing
humidity reach critical levels and medium-high in seeing winds
surpass 25 mph. Skies should largely remain clear which lends
confidence in seeing the abnormal warmth.
Tuesday night, a frontal boundary will arrive out of South Dakota.
This may reach our northern zones by early evening but will be
unlikely to clear the forecast area prior to early morning
Wednesday. Though moisture may increase slightly from the incoming
Pacific airmass, humidity may still struggle to recover for areas
south of Highway 2 even in the absence of stronger winds.
Thursday/Friday...following a cooler day on Wednesday, elevated to
near-critical fire weather conditions once again appear possible.
With the area residing on the northern periphery of strong ridging
aloft, temperatures will quickly return to well-above normal
values. A steady stream of Northern Plains disturbances will
promote stronger winds with gusts climbing to the 30 to 40 mph
range each day. For now, critical conditions are not forecast but
should temperatures trend up this may change.
The weekend follows with a cooldown to more seasonable levels. The
dry forecast appears likely to persist, however, with a return to
above normal levels by the middle of next week.
