.DISCUSSION...
Current observations at Ogallala show middle 90s temperatures with
light southerly winds and humidity around 25 percent. Temperatures
will be slow to fall through this evening until about 7 pm MDT
when storm outflow and increasing thunderstorm chances promote
quickly cooling temperatures and climbing humidity. The trade off
will be a sudden wind gust from storm outflow with peak speeds of
40 to 45 mph not out of the question. Relation to the river may
shield winds slightly but potential remains and observations at
Ogallala will likely provide a 20 to 30 minute advance notice of
the coming wind shift. Once the wind shift occurs, likely to the
northwest or west northwest, peak speeds may persist for around
an hour or two max before falling below 15 mph and then persisting
through the night. Thunderstorms should produce rainfall across
portions of the area but as with typical convection, may be spotty
at best. Select locations may see 0.10-0.20" or rainfall. Low
temperatures tonight will fall into the middle to upper 60s with
humidity recovery around 80 percent.
For Sunday, expect another hot day with highs in the middle 90s
and afternoon humidity minimums falling to around 25 to 30
percent. Winds will favor a westerly direction for the bulk of the
day with speeds around 5 to 15 mph. Late afternoon and evening
thunderstorms will again threaten the area but confidence in
activity approaching the fire site is low with greater confidence
to the north.
